Memes
These drawings are all large in scale, up to 9 feet across, and made with crayons on paper.
A Meme is defined as a single unit of an idea, symbol, or practice transmitted by repetition from one mind to another, analogous to the biological transmission of genes. The term, coined by the biologist Richard Dawkins, derives from the Greek word mimema for "something imitated." We can think of a mime who copies the movements around him, or a strand of DNA which duplicates in cells and evolves from one offspring to the next. Each little "potato person" in these swarms is a meme. Each one copies the next with some variation. Like a school of fish they aggregate into large swarms and clouds. A current seems to flow through them, as if together they form a single entity. Anyone who has been in a large moving crowd has experienced this energy. It can actually be a feeling of extreme bouyancy and happiness, as individual identity begins to vaporize and you are given over to the will and current of the movement.
